Biography
Oregon plant breeder and author Carol Deppe holds a BS in Zoology from University of Florida and a PhD in Biology/Genetics from Harvard University. She breeds plants for superior flavor, super-vigor, organic adaptation, resilience to wild weather and climate change, and human survival for the next ten thousand years. Carol is author of Breed Your Own Vegetable Varieties: The Gardener’s and Farmer’s Guide to Plant Breeding and Seed Saving, 2nd ed.; The Resilient Gardener: Food Production and Self-Reliance in Uncertain Times; The Tao of Vegetable Gardening: Cultivating Tomatoes, Greens, Peas, Beans, Squash, Joy, and Serenity; and “Freelance Plant Breeding,” in Plant Breeding Reviews, Vol 44 (2021) pp113-186, Irwin Goldman ed.  Carol has released more than 20 varieties, all OSSI-Pledged.
