Description

“Stocky plants grow 4-5′ tall, producing mostly light-gold heads packed with tiny blond seeds. Some beautiful bicolored strawberry blond plants are also part of the genepool. Sunset Goldilocks is worth growing as an ornamental crop alone. Very early for a grain amaranth. Leaves can also be eaten raw when young or cooked like spinach when more mature. After plants are cut at the base for seed harvest, new leaves may re-sprout, producing even more food! Overall a really great variety. We started with a variable mix called Sunset Dwarf from Bountiful Gardens, grown at Golden Rule Garden. We selected heavily to eliminate any tall dark-red plants and emphasize the confluence of gold and pink. We named it Sunset Goldilocks, since it has golden locks, and is not too tall and not too short.”
