Description

“(S15 Aza #8 S20) Light years away a star ten times as large as our was nearing its terminus. Of the fourteen planets in its orbit the eighth fostered life. Sentient life. A small planet, the civilizations that arose were able to get past violent terrestrial squabbles, ecological disasters and cooperate. Their collaborations led to technological innovations necessary to expand, to explore their solar system and beyond it. Some have dubiously speculated that on their galactic journeys they visited Earth and seeded human life. Other, more modest claims are that they deposited samples of an array of flora and fauna in experiment or in prospect of their eventual return… In a cave high in the Altai Mountains are said to be traces of their prior visitation: peculiar artifacts, strange metal not found elsewhere on Earth, cryptic inscriptions, odd glyphs depicting conflict with another space faring civilization and more: encased in an amber-like octagons were found inflorescences of various plants not belonging to any known on Earth, save one, clearly belonging to the allium family. Seeds coaxed from brittle pods, dormant for aeons were germinated, gingerly cultivated. Most did not survive, others strangely twisted mutants but one slowly grew and eventually matured into a diminutive sliver of a tiny clovelet. Replanted it grew into a tall plant with rigid dark green leaves and produced a luminous gem of a bulb with 8-10 inky violet cloves. One wonders what conditions exist on another planet for this exist? Could this be the precursor of garlic, brought here from their home-world? With garlic now cultivated all over our planet, will they return to partake in its gastronomical possibilities? Perhaps it’s meant to be seasoning for more proteinaceous fare they may also have seeded here? If they return, if they even exist, we shall certainly dine together one way or another and garlic consumed by all.”
