Description

“Ergetz: (S10 K1 S13/14C S19A): From somewhere far away the kingdom of Ashmedai, land of sprites, demons, faeries and goblins comes this tumescent bulb. Tall plants with pliant fronds which susurrate in spring breezes forming a dense canopy. Actually this is the S19 progeny of Ascora (or 3rd gen from Krasnodar White). Usually open crosses are encouraged here but in this case, the parent population was isolated. While the bulb, clove configuration is similar enough to Ascora to be hard to distinguish, Ergetz leaves lack the rigidity of its parent. It matures later, has thus far not shown any brooming tendency, has slightly longer dormancy and yields a higher percentage of large heads. It’s one of the spicier of the TGSPs. The name Ergetz is from a fairytale but literally translates from Yiddish as “somewhere” So “shum shel ergetz” would be “garlic from somewhere”. Ergetz Vayt is a poem written by Leivick Halpern reflecting on exile to Siberia to which he was deported in 1912.”
