Description
“Dwarf Wild Fred originated from a cross between New Big Dwarf and Carbon made by Bruce Bradshaw in 2005 named Sleazy (an F1 hybrid). Dwarf Wild Fred is a mid-season regular leaf dwarf with heavy yields of medium to large smooth oblate purple fruit in the 8-12 ounce range, with dark crimson flesh color and a dusky rosy purple exterior. Plants reach about a metre+/ 3-4 ft by end of season. The flavor is well balanced, rich and delicious. The variety was selected and named by project co-lead Craig LeHoullier, after his father, Wilfred. One of Will’s favorite stories was when he (the church sexton) was referred to as “”Wild Fred LeHoullier”” in a Sunday program. As Will was inspirational in Craig’s gardening interest, and his favorite tomato was purple (Cherokee Purple), Craig felt it appropriate to memorialize his dad with this wonderful tomato.”
