Organic Seed Alliance
Organization: Organic Seed Alliance
Location: Port Townsend, Washington USA
Biography
Organic Seed Alliance’s research embraces participatory plant breeding, a model that fosters partnership between farmers and formal plant breeders. Farmers know their production and market needs for the crops they grow, while plant breeders understand and teach the field-based breeding techniques necessary for developing varieties that address these needs. This decentralized model of breeding is resulting in more high-quality organic seed, and more farmers gaining skills to develop their own varieties.
